The Prince of Frost is Cold
S01E05
We head back towards town and go to the Stonewall Inn. At the table, Yarno identifies two of them as A Scroll of Fireball and a Scroll of Charm Person. Pearl takes the pearl item that we found earlier and uses a spell to identify the Staff of Defense (glass staff) even more. While this is happening, Yarno becomes extremely angry.
Pearl discovers the staff is called a Staff of Defense (3# in weight). You must be attuned to the staff.
This slender, hollow staff is made of glass yet is as strong as oak. It weighs 3 pounds. You must be attuned to the staff to gain its benefits and cast its spells. While holding the staff, you have a +1 bonus to your Armor Class. The staff has 10 charges, which are used to fuel the spells within it. With the staff in hand, you can use your action to cast one of the following spells from the staff if the spell is on your class's spell list: Tnege armor (1 charge) or Shield (2 charges). No components are required. The staff regains Id6 + 4 expended charges each day at dawn. If you expend the staff's last charge.
Pearl gives the staff to Ari.
We head to the Townmasters Hall. Yarno opens the door and he reunites with Sildar Nevewinter. Caulkin hands the notes from Black Spider to Sildar who reads them, discovering that Yarno was indeed in charge of the Red Brands and working for the Black Spider. Sildar locks Yarno in the basement jail cell of the Townmaster’s Hall. Samantha disapproves greatly and files her nails.
There is a piece of paper with Cragmar Castle? Written on it.
We gossiped with Samantha and she discussed Sister Garaele, came back into town the other day looking battered and bruised. Wester is looking for someone to do a task as well. She also shares that Neverwinter is the closest city, about 5-8 days travel from here.
Sister Garaele is the town’s cleric and has the Shrine of Luck. The shrine is dedicated to Tymora.
We go into Wester’s office to inquire about his task. He is looking for someone to heat West on the Triboar trail. There have been reports of a band of Orcs on the trail and he will pay 100 gold for someone to take care of the problem.
We head back into town to the Shrine of Luck. On the shrine is posted the following coin and image (see below)
We see an Elf Maiden wander out of a nearby home to the shrine. It is sister Garaele. She is an older eleven women, in leather armor, stoic, and closed off. She shares with us about her god, who is the God of Good Fortune. She favors those who take risks.
We share with Garaele that we killed the Red Brands and she invites us inside. She shares that she is looking for a team to hunt down a piece of information for her. She is looking for a spell book by Bo Gentle. The person who has the information is a Banshee named Agatha who needs a gift. We need to deliver a gift, find the spell book, and return it to her.
We head back to the Stonehill Inn. Barthen is present along with the Stonehill Family. We order food and talk. Ari shares that when she picked up the glowing potion that she was told drinking it would give her power. Yrdlyn shares that she has also been haunted by her past. Pearl casts a spell again on Ari’s potion to figure out what it is.
While waiting, we talk with Caulkin who shares that his mother chose her faith over him. Ari shares that her family stans Selune. Yrdlyn also reveals that her original parents had faith as well, but her chosen family worships in the woods.
In the inn, we find Sildar who pays us. Sildar is a member of the Lord’s Alliance. He is willing to task us with helping him to find Cragmar castle, discover what is there, and tend to anything that may need tending to and will award us with 500 gold pieces. Caulkin asks Droop about Cragmar Castle and he shares that he is a Cragmar Goblin.
We agree to take on Sildar’s Quest and Sister Areola’s quests to deliver an item to the banshee.
The Lords’ Alliance is a coalition of rulers from cities and towns across Faerûn (primarily in the North), who collectively agree that some solidarity is needed to keep evil at bay. The rulers of Waterdeep, Silverymoon, Neverwinter, and other free cities in the region dominate the Alliance, and every lord in the Alliance works for the fate and fortune of his or her own settlement above all others. The agents of the Alliance include sophisticated bards, zealous paladins, talented mages, and grizzled warriors. They are chosen primarily for their loyalty, and are trained in observation, stealth, innuendo, and combat. Backed by the wealthy and the privileged, they carry quality equipment (often disguised to appear common), and spellcasters tend to have a large number of scrolls with communication spells.
To seek out and destroy threats to their homelands, agents of the Lords’ Alliance must be highly trained at what they do. Few can compare to their skills in the field. They fight for the glory and the security of their people and for the lords who rule over them, and they do so with pride. However, the Lords’ Alliance can only survive if its members “play nice” with one another, which requires a certain measure of diplomacy. Rogue agents within the Lords’ Alliance are rare, but defections have been known to occur.
We all go to our rooms for the night. In their room, Ari drinks the potion that tastes like blueberries and nothing happens after a few minutes.
We all head to bed. While sleeping, Ari hears the voice in her head again. The heat radiating from her scales stops and her scales stop glowing. Ari gained power from learning a new language and sense of control; she gained MetaMagic.
While sleeping, Glittr is visited by Lliira. She speaks to him and she tells him that it is time for him to take an Oath. She makes him recite the Oath of Devotion.
Back in their room, Yrdlyn and Pearl talk. Pearl shares that Ari drank the potion and nothing happened.. Yrdlyn shares that she joined druids after she left her birth parents. Pearl also shares that she grew up in a religious community. Pearl mentioned that she agrees with Caulkin and his feelings about religion and not like it.
In the middle of the night Yrdlyn is awoken by a strange breeze. She hears a pack of wolves howling outside. The breeze pushes her towards the woods at the edge of Phandalin. She finds a pack of wolves in front of her. She leads them to an Elf further in the woods who she stares at. She transforms back into a human. The Elf shares wisdom of her woods with her from the god, Deneir. He spends the next hour teaching her new sacred magical spells from her clan. She feels that this is not the first this elf has taught another person these spells. The Elf transforms into a Great Dire Wolf and then he bounds off into the wolves.
Attempting to listen to Ari, Glittr, and Pearl. When he turns around, he sees two people standing in his room. They say “Xanras, is that anyway to speak to your friends?” They state they have a gift and come on peace. Nylead thinks that it's been funny that you’ve been hiding, but she knows what you’ve been doing. One of them magically produces pieces of paper. In thieves cant it reads: “Your training is far from over. Lay low. Gain strength. Follow this path. Gain new mentors. Do as you wish, but know I am not done with you. Your mission is not complete, but take these with you. Nylead.”
The other one hands him a bound notebook and a small wooden box. They jump out the window. Caulkin puts the note in his pocket. He opens the box and it contains the Poisoners Kit. The bound notebook contains detailed instructions on how to perform Assassinate, a skill of his guild.
In the morning, we find Toblerone. Glittr shares that they scared off the Red Brands from town. Ari shares with Glittr that she feels more confident and strong with power this morning. Ari shares this with the rest of the group. Yrdlyn shares that she was called to the woods and was taught powers by an Elf in the woods. Caulkin hides anything with the rest of the group but he is adamant about leaving the group.
We visit Barthen’s Provisions and make a few purchases, including getting Droop his own sleeping bag and backpack. While walking to the Miner’s Exchange, Glittr and Yrdlyn noticed a lion’s head logo on a sign outside. Inside the Miner’s Exchange, we find an extremely busy shop.
In the exchange, we fell our gems and jewels for gold. We try to speak to the nicely dressed woman who is running the shop, but she declines our attempts to learn her name. She and Ari speak one more time on our way out of the shop. She hits on Ari and she invites Ari to her home later tonight
