Staying Alive Was the Award
S02E69
As Brylwynn begins to fight again, she hears a voice in her head that she has heard before. It says, “Kill Iymrith! Finish her. Complete the ritual!” The voice is similar to when we were in the giant’s den that told her she was not worthy and then blooped her. After casting Tidal Wave the voice says, “You are not a waste of my magic after all!” During one of her actions, Brylwynn sees the glyph that was once previously on her hand reappear.
The battle roars on. We see one of the storm giants fall and then King Hekaton. With a powerful combination of abilities, his Hunter’s Mark, and Bardic inspiration RC shoots off two arrows, finally taking her down. Her wings can no longer hold her as she falls into the sand with a thud.
The voice in Brylwynn’s head says, “you have finally completed the ritual! Hephaestus”
We then see Iymrith’s skin seem to boil and melt off of her. It looks like a remove magic curse taking effect. It seems like there is an intention as the smoke rises off from her body. This spirit and energy leaves her body, blackens, and then floats to Brylwynn. Iymrith’s body seems to being lifeless, dusty, and growth and she blacks and turns into a pool of black viscous liquid.
From the pit in the middle of the room, what appears like dark smoke rises up from next to Glittr. It looks like black, inky tendrils.
Brylwynn hears in her head, as her eyes blacken, “The ritual has been completed! You have done what it takes to bring Hephaestus back from beyond the grave!” The runes on her wrist glow with sick purple energy, along with the lines that have developed on her body.
We watch as the black energy tries to enter Brylwynn as she remains under its control. She opens her mouth and a voice from it says, “It’s too late. You already did what we needed of you. You killed dragons of his blood. Hephaestus’ time is now!” Brylwynn extends a finger out at Pearl. This energy extends from her and Pearl’s body flies 30 feet telekinetically.
King Hekaton shouts out, “We’ve never seen this before! Stay back!!” as Brylwynn kneels next to the hole. Caulkin, Pearl, RC, and Glittr all do what they can to prevent Brylwynn from going into the hole.
“Hephaestus states that they have already started the process to return to this plane as Brylwynn vomits back up the magic that entered her, with it now being white.
“You have helped channel my magic, and for that, Hephaestus thanks you.” As that is being said, a white magic enters down into the hole as it mixes with the black substance in the hole. The runes are gone, but their purple glow remains on Brylwynn’s skin. As the vomit the sludge combines, we see an entity emerge. It appears to be this purple, humanoid-like figure. As it emerges, it almost looks like a pixelated blocky depiction of the entity. “Hephaestus’ time draws nearer, and I have returned!”
The entity then vanishes and everything seems to be back to normal in the room. The runes are no longer glowing on Brylwynn’s body. Iymrith’s body and the black sludge is no longer present under where she died.
We investigate the statue we see in her lair. It looks like a serpent emerging from the same. Glittr notices two black gems in the eyes.
25 lbs of obsidian worth 250 gp.
We go back to Iymrith’s treasure horde and obtain 15,000 gold pieces. We find the Storm Giant’s Scepter at the bottom of the mound of gold.
The gold weighs about 200 lbs in total and is held in the bag of holding.
We teleport back to the Giant’s Court. As we are there, Brylwynn still feels bereft of 4 schools of magic despite the runes no longer glowing on her body.
Serissa says a small speech. The path between giant and smallfolk has been forged. They now feel that the ordning can begin to heal. She talks to King Hekaton and describes that the Storm Giant’s power and leader of giant folk has returned and is secured. King Hekaton grabs the scepter and regains power once again. He thanks us for helping him with the task of defeating Iymrith. He takes a seat on his throne and declares a feast for the night!
While we party that evening, Bahamut talks to RC. He shares that he feels something in him, that was very in touch with dragons. He felt that Ari killed a red dragon, and he felt betrayal from her. “I think she committed a betrayal against dragons and this is why that happened to her.” Almost as if she betrayed dragonkind.
We then decide to return to Waterdeep and to check in with Larael as our first stop.
