Crying Is Not an Emergency!
S03E10
We find ourselves in Krowen’s office as Heathwell is bound and gagged. We start speaking with Krowen. He writes down “Erinyes?” on his notebook on his desk. He show him the calcified heart from The Erinyes. RC performed an insight check and determined that we are likely dealing with Krowen and not an imposter. He also states there is an inert energy about the heart. “It is still attached to its owner in some sense.” He shares that some devils have the ability to regenerate or reincarnate in the fire of the Nine Hells.
We shift subjects to Heathwell and he asks for the two Harpers to speak about why we lied to him about Larael’s whereabouts. RC takes the lead in trying to smooth things over. Krowen says that Heathwell states that in the Throne Room we killed Larael and an old woman. He threatens to demote Caulkin in the rankings of The Harpers.
Caulkin tells him to do what he needs to do, but he acted deceitfully in the best interests of the greater good. RC speaks up and provides Krowen with the full set of information we have on what happened the night ‘Larael’ was killed and us finding her in the necklace.
Pearl shares that Larael is charmed by a 9th level Imprisonment Spell and she is safe with the Storm Giants. Krowen reveals that he’s a Wizard who can cast a 9th Level Dispel Magic.
Krowen states that reviving Larael is of the utmost importance to him. We use the conch to teleport ourselves there with Krowen in tow.
Back at The Storm Giant’s Court, we obtain Larael from the Storm Giants. We get teleported back to the Moongleam Tower in Everlund with Larael. We leave Larael’s body with Krowen for the night as he really wants nothing to do with us. He sends us away to get a room elsewhere for the night. [It is around 12:00 pm]
As we are leaving the tower, Caulkin overhears people saying a local apothecary has created a new potion. They have made a Potion of Invulnerability, for the cost of 3500 gold. We decide to buy this and have Glittr hold it.
We decide to do some shopping and get rooms for the night.
Brylwynn and Pearl go up to the room. Brylwynn says, “I know you don’t agree with the choices that I made and you don’t have to agree with them, but I’m doing the best I can with what I have. But I really need you.” Pearl says, “I have left, have I? I know what it takes so despite how angry I am and how much I hate your decision, I am here for you. But, it’ll take time.” Brylwynn crawls into bed and her sword glows an icy blue. The Prince of Frost appears in front of them in the hotel room.
“Two of my three favorite benefactors! Things were so crazy that I forgot to bestow upon you your gift, Brylwynn. It was heated with that memory I had in Silverymoon. I forgot to touch your weapon with what I can offer.” He blows on her sword and it glows icy blue again. She obtains a +1 longsword now, but it is bound to her and the Prince of Frost.
He states that he has tidings for both of them. He turns to speak with Pearl now. He acknowledges that she was coerced to bonding with him by her mother, in order to save her village. He says that when Fey decided to join him on her own volition, he gained some additional power. He felt no surge or power when Brylwynn joined him the same when Fey did. He asks why Pearl doesn’t seem as enthralled to stop the Raven Queen in the same way that her sister is. The Prince of Frost feels slighted by this. “You wound me by how little you seem invested in stopping The Raven Queen.” He brings up a question to Pearl’s loyalty which has been discussed in the past.
He gives her a proposition, “Or should I say a Reverse Proposition.” The Prince of Frost states that he doesn’t need two benefactors, and that two will suffice. He agrees to release Pearl from their bargain. She declines his offer and says, “the only two benefactors you need are right in front of you.” As he poofs away he says, “Don’t say I never give or offer you anything.”
After this Pearl gets up and leaves the room. She finds a temple of Lliira in Everlund to spend the night in.
We rest for the night and went back to the Moongleam Tower. Krowen casts dispel magic on Larael to remove the spell upon her. As he does, the magical binds release on her wrists. Larael slumps over on the couch she is sitting on, clearly fatigued and tired from being bound by powerful magic. RC gives her the golden chain that once held the pendant she was captured in.
We decide to begin our journey towards the High Forest. We know that most people only go about 1-2 hours into the High Forest. Going further than that, it becomes more magical and elf country. We make our way into the High Forest for two days without issue. As we carry on, we are somewhat astonished that nothing has happened to us on the journey during the first two days. We don’t see creatures or elves that are known to frequent the area.
We look at our map and try to determine a route. We decide to go to the Grandfather Tree, which we reach on the beginning of the 3rd day. We come across a large clearing and see the tree in the middle of the clearing. As we enter the clearing we are about 500’ away from the tree at this point. As we step out, we gasp collectively as the tree does not have any leaves on it. It appears gray and twisted with dry, dead wood. We hear voices arguing in what seems to be a confrontation.
Caulkin tries to sneak closer to the base of the tree to get a better look. As he reaches about 350’ away, the shouting seems to stop. At about 100’ away, he sees people laying on the around with 1 person standing around them.
We decide to get about 65 feet away and we walk up to them as a group. As this happens, the lone figure turns to face us. It is a woman clad head to foot in armor. She calls out, “Visitors, and who might you all be?”
A lot of the figures are in various states. Some are petrified, some are dead, and some have seemed to have died of necrotic wounds. We see one elf who is impaled in the tree by a sword. The Long Figure is carrying a morningstar-like weapon. She bears the armor of Beshaba and her weapon. Caulkin notices that one of the people lying on the around has the flaming red hair of #6. She says, “Back for seconds I see? Am I going to have to kill one of you again?”
There is a deep hole in the ground behind her flowing with benevolent energy. She says, “brother we have visitors” and speaks towards the hole. She says the shadow shard has already been activated.
