After the battle, Sypha speaks with Ari and Pearl about the origins of their magic. Sypha is unaware as to who gifted her powers to her, but she is on the search for it. Pearl recounts how she is from the north and Auril looks over the region. After her father was frozen solid and died, her mother sacrificed her to the Prince of Frost, who has beef with the Raven Queen. The Price of Frost tasked Pearl to get close with the Raven Queen as a means of trickery. The Raven Queen showed Pearl the world, who realized she was not so bad, and so now she is playing double agent, as is Fae. As they talked during dinner, Sypha found herself that she kept looking over at Ari’s scales throughout the dinner shared between the three of them.
During the dinner Bahamut asks RC if he can go visit the group dinner. He is now green with a little bit of venom dripping from the sides of his mouth.
Glittr asks Sypha about her knowledge of the Feeble Minded spell. She knows that greater restoration and time passing typically lifts this spell, but something has made it so that it hasn’t been lifted yet.
On the 3rd day, we need the Lurkwood approaching as we get closer to Silverymoon. Sypha and RC share stories as she asks about the group’s history in Silverymoon. RC shares the story about how he found an egg after killing a red dragon, but recounts the shell looked different as it was iridescent.
RC sends Bahmut on Caulkin to distract him. RC pickpockets Caulkin from the jerky stole from the group on the card game between Sypha and Glittr. He leaves jerky in its place.
The next day, we woke up just outside of Silverymoon. We recall there were two different libraries in the city as well as the inn and bar we visited. We decide to go see the High Harper first and see Räyûvel. As we approach the city and step through the gate, we notice that something is off and not correct. The city structurally is the game, the buildings are intact. The city that was once lush and green with browning grass and dying flowers, with an overall dreary vibe. The people are still present, but their energies are much less.
We try to find the High Harper, and the mystical appearing bridge is absent and a makeshift bridge stands in its place. The temple dedicated to Selune is no longer a temple, which is strange as it is left to the grassy field we remember. As we examine the home, we see two women come out of the home, with two smaller figures. They are all hunched over in the courtyard. It takes a moment, but RC recognizes them as two of the founding members of the Dragon’s Tail who saved the Sword Coast 10 years ago.
The shorter woman with the longbow turns around and greets us. She tells the children to go inside and talks to the taller woman, Ruby. The taller one states that our Ward is gone and he has left for the time being, leaving the two women behind. Caulkin tries to tell them about Harshnag, but they defer to Krowen. The two further state that the browning of the area is due to Räyûvel. They state that this was once a Harper base and Räyûvel was tending to it, but this was their fatal mistake. A demon lord set vengeance on the Dragon’s Tail for what they did and one of their party members did not make it. His partner’s soul was unbound and unable to return to its body, and this is his attempt to restore his energy. They are draining the magic from Silverymoon to try and regain their strength and the remaining members of the Dragon’s Tail are the only ones left to guard the palace. The 5 remaining members suspect that Nat’s soul is in the abyss. They are around a stone plaque with freshly turned earth around.
We head to the magic library to do some reading and research. RC and Glittr search the library for giant information. They try to find information on Kayalithica and the Dreadstone Cleft. They find that the area used to be giant territory years ago. Dreadstone Cleft is presumably a Stone Giant beacon or holdout. They read that Kayalithica, the highest of the Stone Giants, is still lower than the Frost or giants. They also read that the Stone Giants are likely the most magical after Cloud Giants. They don’t have the arcane nature of cloud giants, but they are the most wisdom based of the giants and in-tune with other deities. They share a deep relationship with Skoraeus Stonebones, the ancestry and wisest of Stone Giants. They manifest this through their Olach Morrah, or meditative state.
Pearl decides to research more about deities. She learns from the sigil of the deer antlers and the coloring that she received a message from Beshaba.
RC reads more about Menzoberranzan, which is a large city in the Upper Northdark. It has a lot of Drown present in it and most evil aligned deities have presence there.
RC and Glittr read more about the Feeble Mind spell. Pearl recalls that she saw the same pink eyes from the vision she had the other night with the eyes she saw when she was speaking to the voice who had cursed Richster.
Sypha hears, for the first time in her life, a voice that says, “exactly that” as the group discusses how Beshaba has affected them in different ways through their journeys. As we study late into the night, the sun sets around us and the torches are lit around us. Suddenly, the torches change colors to dark pink, red-purple, and black. As that happens, Ari and Bahamut are cursed with Bad Luck. Bahamut looks up at RC and says “I don’t feel very good” as his eyes turn colors to the same shades of ugly purple. In the same stroke, creatures appear out of the thin air.
As the fight goes Brylwynn notices another person walk into the library.
Laeral: There is a beautiful tome dedicated entirely to Laeral Silverhand–once one of the most powerful and noteworthy of the harpers. This strikes you as interesting as you knew she was a daughter of mystra but as you look it’s noteworthy that she’s been alive for centuries. And during that time she’s done an incredible amount of good–The majority of the book, split into two tomes, details the countless ways she has helped the Sword Coast–where she has spent the majority of her life trying to unit its people for good. She helped by the High Host Tower in Luskan–a beacon for wizadry, and, centuries later when it was overrun by liches she was instrumental in clearing it out. She’s helped avengers fight dragons, take down demons trying to escape the Abyss, fought krakens, prevented devils from conquering entire cities, explored vast swatches of Faerun and carried Sword Coast knowledge to and from those cities, explored deep deserts. She occasionally ruled Waterdeep on and off during this time pending on what adventures or personal knowledge she was trying to gain. She has been known to rule with a just arm and has saved hundreds of thousands of lives from the creatures bent on destroying the material plane. However, she is not without folly. There are small ones like spells she intended/created did not go well but eventually reworked to spells you know today. The most egregious atoricity wasn’t something she did but something that happened to her. In the early 1300s, she was trying to kill a lich when it tricked her. Unbeknownst to her, Beshaba was supporting this lich.
Disguised as Tymora, her sister, Beshaba advised Laeral that the only way to defeat its phylactery was to utilize the Tiara of the Dawn, an ancient artifact created after the spellplague to dispel shadows and evil that originated in the Shadowfell, Pandemonium, Hades, and Gehenna. Since this liches’ body was trapped in one of those realms, Larael rightfully accepted the tiara. However, Beshaba’s trick worked–it takes deities at that level to fool mortals and Laerael had no idea that Beshaba was involved. It ended up being a Crown of Horns, one of Baal’s, Deity of Death’s artifacts used to warp minds. She fell under its corrupting sway and nearly perished in the madness. She only survived at the cost of her eldest sister’s life: Anastra “Syluné” Silverhand and The Blackstaff, her second in command in Waterdeep. While they defeated the lich, they could not defeat its phylactery and her elder sister perished. However, The Blackstaff survived. In the wake of this, she abdicated her role in waterdeep and wandered much of the sea of fallen stars and its coastal cities forroughly 50 years or so. In the last 100, 1400s to now, she has become an advisor and occasional open lord as she is now, for Waterdeep, although absences are often common. It is one of these that you Caulkin are after. Her most recent. Of which there is little save it was after the mortal death of Blackstaff.
