We resume amid battle, shortly after RC fell the Prince of Frost with a final blow. We devise a plan for Glittr to touch the stone after Pearl and Brylwynn devise a plan to cure the group some HP after the battle. Lliira speaks to him and reminds Glittr that he is strong and will follow Cadderly’s footsteps. Glittr touches the shard and as he does, necrotic energy flows out of the shard, falling toward the ground. Wispy lines flow into the ground in a 10’ circle around the shard, pushing Baptiste back. Purple lines shoot up from cracks in the ground and he feels bombarded by necrotic energy. After 3 waves of necrotic energy shoot out into his body, Glittr falls after the final blast, successfully deactivating the shard.
Lliira says to Glittr, “You have done so well, but the fight carries on. Continue to use Joybringer for it will grow with you.”
RC looks at the podium where the Prince of Frost once stood and sees just rocks. With no further leads to go on, we leave the cave. Just outside, we see Jyaernos standing outside in elven form. He says, “It is great to be back!”
He addresses Brylwynn and Pearl directly, congratulating them. Brylwynn asks if he’ll be granting them their warlock powers back, but he smirks and chuckles now that he is free from Beshaba’s influence. He introduces himself as Jyaernos the Archfey, son of Queen Titania, the Prince of the Summer Court. He offers them a pact with the Prince of the Summer Court instead of the Prince of Frost. The two of them chat briefly and decide to accept his offer. He hopes their new relationship can be built on truth instead of coercion.
Pearls inquired about Fey and her current state of being and if Fey is going to have powers given her current state.
Caulkin tries to swindle the Prince out of money, but The Prince takes 50 gold from him instead.
We make our way back to Pearl’s hometown of (insert village name here) and rest for the night. We revisit our plans on what to do next. We are going to go to Jalanthar where Brother and Sister’s base was. We decided to go to Everlund the next morning. We teleport to Everlund using a scroll. There, Caulkin briefly speaks with Krowen about his ranking in the Harpers, which is neutral. He had two strikes against him, but he has rewrote these.
We make the two-day journey out to Jalanthar as our next stop. One night at camp, Bahmut, who is much bigger now, having grown from being a dragonette, is now able to fly around with RC on his back. They fly around in the air showing off their flips and loop-de-loops as the party cheers them on.
One evening Glittr receives a message from Lliira on the pedestal he is familiar with. He advises him to stop in Waterdeep to see Lliira the wizard before heading out west to Reythum.
After the two-day journey, we see a large village off in the distance. It is about as big as Daggerford or a more robust Phandalin. Similar to Phandalin’s mine, Jalanthar draw is that it’s a pilgrimage site, a religious area They are mostly neutral gods such as Savras, Lithander, Kelemvor, or Gond that are worshipped here and have shrines.
We walk in and see cobblestone roads. We look around and the village looks very normal, knowing that there is a “hideout” here for Brother and Sister. As we walk into the village Baptiste looks around at the people around us to get a vibe check. As he does, he notices people are shy away from us. They are actively taking paths avoiding us and keeping a distance.
We split into three groups:
RC, Pearl, and Baptiste - RC tries to notice the types of people walking around, and they’re a mix of all races. Pearl approaches a friendly woman, trying to get her attention. She is crass towards Pearl and spits at her feet, calling all adventurers trouble. She tells us to head to the Bubbling Cauldron.
Brylwynn and Glittr - The further we head into the town, the worse people’s perceptions and vibes against us are
Caulkin goes alone - The further he goes into the city and tries to be deceptive to the people shooting daggers at the group. He tries be play off the “Oh look at those out-of-towners” to which a passerby comments that the group needs to get out sooner than later.
We meet back up and decide to head to the Bubbling Cauldron. As we head in, Pearl notices two people who a non-adventurers, look at each other, and then get up and leave the bar. The other adventurers in the bar don’t seem to mind us. The human behind the bar is a human female who greets us warmly. She introduces herself at Rota. Brylwynn comments the cold glances we’ve been getting from everyone and Rota avoids answering the question.
We banter with Rota and Caulkin pisses her off. We rent a suite from her for the night. Rota shares that there is a large general shrine in the center of town for all of the deities.
We talk with the other two adventurers very briefly. One is a paladin to Lathander, but they don’t share too much information.
As we approach, we see 5 symbols above the door, one for each of the deities we know about and a 5th symbol of the Raven Queen. We see Lathander and Savras shrines on each side of the walls upstairs and in the center of the room is a banister leading down. We see two people outside who head in as we approach, and when we go inside, we see them head downstairs. RC checks the two of them out who appear to be toying with us, trying to get us to follow them. He gathers the shrines for Kelemvor, The Raven Queen, and Helm are likely downstairs. We make our way downstairs.
We see the two people we followed downstairs and three alters for The Raven Queen, Helm, and Kelemvor.
At the Raven Queen, we see a staff being held by magic and two figures. Glittr and Caulkin notice on the altar of Kelemvor a woman with a number one on her chest, and on the altar of Glittr’s father also being siphoned away. Next to the staff near the Raven Queen is the similarly shadowy figure we saw after we defeated Imiyrith.
“Well, well, you have taken the bait and the allure was too much to exist. I have been trapped in the Shadowfell for far too long.” It looks at Brylwynn and says, “You were taught magic in the weave, using my skills, tugging at my energy… I cursed the girl with dragon scales on her face’s family, but she wasn’t meant to survive.” Looking at RC and Bahmut, “they say that their descends are the reason Bahmut can be alive right now, tethering Haephestus to the material plane.”
“You see, the shadow shards bind me, but I can’t seem to find my phylactery, and you are going to help me find it, or perish.”
We all know a Phylactery is a boogie man’s tale. It’s the magical item where a lich stores its soul, to keep it immortal. One of the shadow shards is Haephestus’ phylactery, but he doesn’t know where it is.”
Glittr’s Sacrifice, Jyaernos’ Return:
After RC defeats the Prince of Frost, Glittr bravely activates the Shadow Shard, endures waves of necrotic energy, and collapses. Outside, Jyaernos appears in elven form and offers Brylwynn and Pearl new pacts as the Prince of the Summer Court, freeing them from Beshaba’s influence.
A Moment of Rest & New Directions:
The party rests in Pearl’s hometown before teleporting to Everlund, where Caulkin clears his Harper record. Bahmut takes RC flying in celebration of his growth, and Glittr receives a divine message from Lliira, urging a detour to Waterdeep.
Tension in Jalanthar:
As the party arrives in Jalanthar, townspeople avoid them. Pearl, RC, and Baptiste try to gather information, but are met with distrust. At the Bubbling Cauldron, they regroup, where barkeep Rota welcomes them but deflects questions about the town’s coldness.
Suspicious Shrines & Hidden Figures:
The group investigates the town’s shrine and follows two strangers into a hidden chamber. They find a woman marked “1” and Glittr’s father being magically drained. A shadowy figure stands by a floating staff near the altar of the Raven Queen.
Haephestus Reveals the Stakes:
The shadowy figure is revealed as Haephestus, who taunts Brylwynn for using his magic, claims to have cursed Pearl’s family, and blames RC’s bloodline for tethering Bahamut to the Material Plane. He reveals one Shadow Shard is his phylactery—but even he doesn’t know which.
